Information Extraction Tools Mine Legal Documents to Create Knowledge

Menlo Park, CA - May 14, 2006 - OpenSource, Inc., a provider of web-based applications for legal document analysis and management, today announced the release of OpenSource Sanitize 2.0 and OpenSource Profiler 1.0, expanding its suite of information extraction tools.

Requested, defined and tested by technologically advanced law firms, both tools aim to speed up the adoption of knowledge management systems:

• OS Sanitize removes sensitive information from attorney work product to create model documents for future use.
• OS Profiler mines the body of legal documents and creates an XML output that can automatically populate the document profile in document management systems.

OS Sanitize removes sensitive information to create a model document. The enhanced version 2.0 of the product includes the following improvements:

• Support for litigation as well as transaction documents.
• Full integration with MS-Word: the user never leaves the MS Word environment

Other features of OS Sanitize include:

• Instant change report that shows the substitutions made and allows for attorney-driven changes.
• Sanitization of document images (PDF, tiff) - the online Sanitize version allows users to start with any file format and end up with a clean model document.

OS Profiler creates MS Word and XML reports of metadata extracted from the body of a document, for example dates, parties, courts, judges, contact information, governing law, etc. The XML output can be automatically transferred to the document profile in a document management system, such as iManage or Hummingbird Docs Open. Including information from the body of a document in its DMS profile exponentially increases the ability of users to obtain accurate search results.
